Lesson Rules & Policies

Every rink has rules regarding Freestyle sessions. Please check with the rink and follow its rules!

All skaters must have a current U.S. Figure Skating Membership to skate on Freestyle sessions - there are no exceptions!

Freestyle Guidelines at Ice Vault:

  1. No pair teams or ice dance teams are allowed during freestyle sessions.
  2. All skaters must check-in and pay before skating. Skaters not checked in will be asked to leave the ice.
  3. All skaters must clear the ice when the resurfacer enters the ice.
  4. Program and lesson skaters have the right of way.
  5. Please be aware of the skaters around you. No talking in the middle of the rink. Move to the boards when you are not actively working.
  6. No food or drink on the ice surface.
  7. In order to keep the ice clear, coaches should try to stay on the perimeter.
  8. Skaters should exhibit a cooperative attitude towards each other and avoid confrontation.
  9. Lower-level skaters should be aware of faster skaters, and more advanced skaters should act as role models for lower-level skaters.
  10. Any conflicts should be addressed to the Skating Director or rink management, and any action will be taken at the discretion of the management.

Parents, please note the following:

  • Parents, skaters not in the session, or other spectators may not loiter rinkside. This is unsafe, and it interferes with a constructive training session.
  • Coaching by parents from the bleachers, benches, doors, or dashers is not permitted at any time. Parents will be asked to leave the arena if this happens. Parents agree to respect the coach and refrain from “sideline” coaching their child or other skaters.
  • The benches by the ice and team boxes are to be used by the skaters and coaches only - parents are not permitted in the team boxes at any time!
  • If skaters must talk to someone off the ice, even if for a brief time, they need to leave the ice to do so, or the skater will be asked to leave the ice.
  • Videotaping anyone other than your own skater is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated. Anyone engaging in this behavior will be asked to leave the arena for an indefinite period of time.
